St. Josephs National School official opening

The new extension of St. Joseph’s National School, Riverstown, Glanmire was unveiled. Murnane & O’Shea Ltd were the main contractors on this site.

The project consisted of the construction of 23,000 square foot extension to existing primary school which included 12 new classrooms, 5 one to one tuition rooms and a Special Needs Annex which housed two large classrooms and an observation room. Along with the new extension, we also completed various new offices for staff and administration, a new computer room, staff room and a library.

This had to be constructed while keeping the school in full use at all times, and additional care had to be given to safety matters as a result of this, as did the co operation between our site staff and the school principal.

The project is being managed by Mott MacDonnald Pettit Consulting Engineers and by Cork County Council’s Water Services Investment Programme Project Team under the direction of Mr. Noel O’Keeffe, County Engineer.
The project involves the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Facility capable of treating effluent from a population of 6,000 people. The project also involves the upgrading of the pumping stations located adjacent to Wolfetone Square and the construction of approximately 3 km of pipework.
While the construction works will bring some disruption and delay to traffic, the preparation of detailed Traffic Management Plans will help keep this disruption to a minimum. Cork County Council will liaise with all stakeholders involved to ensure that any potential disruptions are flagged at an early stage and mitigation strategies are put in place.
