Case Study:

MARITIME HOTEL, BANTRY, CO. CORK

Client:
TRYBAN LTD.
Description:

This project consisted of the construction of a new 51 bedroom hotel with 30 no. 2 bed suites
and 3 no. 1 bed suites and included banqueting facilities, 3 bars, restaurant and leisure centre with
spa and pool.

Main Features:
This was a turnkey project including the full fit-out of the hotel itself down to loose fixtures and fittings.
Works involved the temporary diversion of the national primary route (the N71) and the construction of an underground basement under same to provide parking facilities for the hotel. To facilitate this, Murnane & O’Shea constructed a 120 metre long section of NRA specification Bridge deck to carry the realignment of the N71.

As the property was on the quayside, all basement works were carried out within coffer dams of
sheet piling temporarily installed at the quay walls.

The main challenge of this contract was to provide 95,000 m2 of gross floor area on a footprint
site of 1 acre adjacent to a national primary route under tight time constraints and with no
disruption to road users.
